Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, an innovative healing treatment that uses the body’s own blood to repair damaged tissue, is quickly becoming the most sought after speciality on the market. From famous athletes like Tiger Woods seeking to regenerate knee tissue with PRP injections, to superstars like Angelina Jolie and Kim Kardashian looking to refresh their gorgeous complexions with PRP Microneedling Facials (aka PRP Facial or Blood Facial), the treatment is proving to yield astounding results in rejuvenating the body.

We live in a time of tremendous technological advancement and treatments like PRP reverse the aging process by using this technology to heal the body. Areas of the face where signs of aging are most prominent are around the eyes, mouth and forehead. Many times, exposure to the environment can accelerate the aging process and show premature wrinkling and fine lines. Over time, the skin loses its firm appearance as the body’s production of collagen and elastin deteriorates. But PRP therapy for the face is a wonderful solution because it stimulates the body’s own production of collagen and elastin to rejuvenate skin tissue naturally.

What is PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) ?

PRP, aka Blood Facial, uses a person’s own blood to heal and regenerate tissue. We offer this cutting edge technology at our NYC-based medical spas by appointment to those interested in the treatment. Blood is mainly composed of a liquid called plasma, but it also contains solid components like platelets, red cells and white cells. The main objective of platelets is to clot blood, but they also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors that have been found to actually heal injuries. Unlike Botox and Fillers, PRP therapy harnesses the power of a person’s own body to rejuvenate skin, increasing the production of collagen and elastin.

What is the PRP Facial Procedure?

Our licensed aestheticians are also certified medical technicians. They will begin the process of PRP therapy by first drawing blood from your arm. Using a machine called a centrifuge, a rapidly rotating container that applies centrifugal force to its contents, platelets are separated from the other blood cells. This process significantly increases the density of the platelets by five to ten times greater than usual.

The PRP serum, rich with your own platelets, is then spread over the face. Through the process of PRP microneedling or microdermabrasion, the PRPs penetrate deep into the layers of skin. The PRP acts as an energy boost for the skin, helping skin to function at optimal levels. The production of collagen and elastin are increased, while hydrating the skin. The results are sometimes referred to as a PRP Facelift because the skin looks fantastic afterwards.

Then touch up PRP treatments are recommended every six months to a year for the next couple of years. Your cells will continue to age naturally over time, but the PRP Facial acts as a restart for your cells bringing new life as the body’s production of collagen and elastin are stimulated.
